Jane McDonagh

Jane has practiced family law for over 25 years having built her department at Simons Muirhead & Burton. Most of Jane’s cases have an international element involving complex financial arrangement spanning several jurisdictions including Europe, Eastern Europe, the Middle and Far-East and the USA. She acts regularly on applications for financial orders in England following divorce overseas and in conflict of jurisdiction cases. Jane’s expertise includes international children cases such as child abduction, applications for leave to remove, cross-border child arrangements and residence orders. She started her career in media litigation, and uses the technical knowledge and strategies gained to her advantage in high conflict cases. Jane also appreciates the emotional and financial cost of family litigation and will do what she can to negotiate an amicable resolution when possible. To that end she is a Family Mediator and practices as a Collaborative Lawyer. The 2018 Legal 500 directory reports that Jane leads a “very strong young team and guides it well” and also reports that her group is a “rising family department that is easily able to take on the well-established ‘Magic Circle’ firms”. Chambers legal Directory 2018 classes Jane as an international expert, and recommends her for getting “straight to the nub of things …… extremely sharp.”
